A Debut CD with a Purpose

I’m at a really exciting point in my life right now – I’ve got enough good original material to do a proper full-length album, and I’m about to begin a new job at a K-8 charter school starting the brand new music program! Both have the potential to be awesome, and I want to make sure they’re done right. I’ve started a Kickstarter project to help make sure that happens.

The goal is to record and release my debut full-length original CD in an actual studio with incredibly talented professional musicians, and 100% of the proceeds from the CD will go towards the budget of the music program that I’m starting this fall. I’ve got a target of $4000 in pledges over the next 40 days, and you can get a wide range of rewards for pledging different amounts. This money will go towards recording, mixing, mastering, musicians, and replicating 1000 CD’s as well as putting it on iTunes and other online places. Once that’s all in place, I can start using the CD’s to make money for the music program!

WUNC Radio Appearance

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do an interview/performance on WUNC’s “The State of Things” a few weeks back. My friend Hugh Swaso (an incredibly talented musician in his own right) accompanied me on the show. Frank Stasio and all of the folks at the studio were incredibly friendly and made me feel so comfortable that I felt like I’d been doing this for a while instead of just getting my feet wet. We had a great time, and I think it came through in the music. If you missed the interview or would like to hear it again, you can listen here: http://wunc.org/tsot/archive/sot0514c10.mp3/view.

The 2010 Discovery Series

Each month in 2010, I’m playing a special show at the Broad Street Cafe in Durham, NC. In these shows I play two sets – the first consisting of music by an artist, band, or genre that’s been influential to me. The second set consists of my original music and a cover song or two. January’s artist was Ben Harper; February was Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye; March was Ray Lamontagne and Amos Lee; and April was the band Cake. This month’s show, on May 21 at 8 PM features the music of Bob Marley. Additional shows include:

June – Top 40’s from 1997-1998
July – Latin Music – Mana, Juanes, Elvis Crespo, Shakira (en espanol)
August – “Oldies” Radio
September – Boy Bands
October – Jimi Hendrix
November – Weezer
December – Gospel Music

Hope you can make it out!
